Western Winter Camp - Reining

For the day clinics, parents/guardians will need to pick up and drop off. We do not provide lodging. Parents may stay to watch. Lunch is provided for Participants.

For health & safety purposes, it is recommended camp participants have show experience in the respective discipline.

WESTERN CLINICS:

Participants must be 14 years of age by the start of camp date through rising seniors in High School (not graduating before clinic). It is recommended that riders specialize in riding in horsemanship, reining or both.

Camp Includes:

  • Lunch both days, snacks & drinks, camp shirt, 2-4 sessions, 1 NCEA educational meeting
  • Group video review with Coach on day 2 of camp.

Schedule:

Day 1

  • 8:30 AM Start Time - Participants arrive to start AT 8:30 AM
    • Explain format
    • Meet Current SAs helping
    • Give tour & explain tack
    • Review horse care expectations
    • Go over schedule for horsemanship and reining
  • 9:30 AM Meet Horses & Get Ready for Horsemanship Practice
    • Horsemanship tacks up horses
    • Reining goes over horse care (wrapping, grooming, etc.)
  • 10:00 AM Begin Horsemanship Practice
    • Reining – Wrapping and banding forelocks
  • 11:00 AM Horsemanship Practice Ends
  • 11:05 AM Begin Reining Practice
    • Horsemanship: Wrapping & banding
  • 12:05 PM Finish Reining Practice
    • Reining untacks horses
    • Horsemanship helps reiners
  • 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Lunch/Break
    • Lunch will be provided for each participant
    • Participants are given time to go to lunch/hotel, if needed.
  • 1:30 PM Horsemanship Meet at the Barn & Get Ready for Horsemanship Practice
  • 2:00 PM Horsemanship Practice Begins
  • 3:00 PM Horsemanship Practice ends
  • 3:00 PM Reiners return to barn for reining practice
  • 3:30 PM Reining Practice Begins
  • 4:30 PM Reining Practice Ends
  • 4:35 PM Put reining horses away
  • 5:30 PM Reiners excused for the evening

Day 2

  • 8:30 AM Start Time – Reining and Horsemanship arrive to be ready to start AT 8:30a
    • Go over draw & horse description list
    • Current SAs to be warming horses up
  • 9:00 AM Horsemanship Scrimmage Starts
    • Each rider will get a 4-minute warm-up
    • Coach Broughton judges
    • SA’s help coach
  • 9:50 AM Horsemanship concludes
  • 10:00 AM Reining Unofficial Warmups
  • 10:30 AM Campers mount horses
    • Each rider will get a 4 minute warm-up
    • Coach Broughton judges
    • SA’s help coach
  • 11:00 AM Reining concludes
  • Both Teams help untack horses
  • 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Group Lunch & NCEA Information

  • 3:00 PM: Tour of Stanley J Athletic Center
    • Meet with current strength & conditioning coach
    • 60 minute weights workout
  • 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Final notes from camp & questions for coaches

What is the refund/payment policy?

  • Payment in full is due at time of registration.
  • $50 of tuition is forfeited anytime after enrollment.
  • 50% of tuition is forfeited 14 days before the event begins.
  • 100% of tuition is forfeited 6 days before the event begins.

Additional Information: If a camper will require any accommodations due to special needs, we ask that you notify us via email or in writing of those needs a minimum of two weeks prior to the camp start date so we can make the accommodations.

Camp is open to any and all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender. The camp is open on a first-come, first-serve basis to any individual who satisfies the age, grade level and/or gender requirements set forth in the registration materials.
